MARCH 6: TRACING THE SUBTLE BREATH with Ty landrum

  • The Ivy Yoga School (map)

Tracing the Subtle Breath

Ashtanga Vinyasa works with opposing movements of breath and invites these to align. When the breath aligns, the experience of the body opens up, revealing endless patterns of sensation. The practice is to be present with sensation, allowing it to unfold in the open expanse of awareness, only to dissolve again into the emptiness from which it arose. Through this process, we give ourselves space. We allow our minds to breathe. Our thoughts and feelings begin to expand and contract in an exquisite flow of consciousness.

In this workshop, we explore some techniques from the Hatha tradition that bring this practice alive--tracing internal currents of breath, balancing patterns of sensation, and opening our awareness to the currents of the subtle body itself. Using these techniques, we learn to access a more subtle sphere of our being, and to move our bodies from that deeper place. As we internalize these techniques, our bodily movements take an astonishing elegance and fluidity. This workshop is for beginning and advanced practitioners alike. It will combine a light to moderate asana practice with somatic exploration and philosophy.
