Research suggests that prenatal yoga is safe and can have many benefits for pregnant women and their babies, including: improved sleep; reduced stress and anxiety; increased strength, flexibility and endurance of muscles used in childbirth; decrease lower back pain, nausea, carpal tunnel syndrome symptoms, headaches and shortness of breath; and increase in optimism and a sense of well-being!
It is incredibly fun and enormously satisfying to teach yoga to pregnant women. Many women come to yoga for the first time during pregnancy, and this is a valuable opportunity to help them fall in love with the practice! As a prenatal yoga teacher, you will accompany women as they grow and change in pregnancy, and help them positively face their challenges and fears using the tools of yoga. You may also have a profound impact on their birth experience.
If you are a certified yoga teacher (200-hour) and would like to learn how to teach yoga to pregnant and postpartum women, we are offering a supplemental teacher training that will equip you with the following skills:
*An understanding of the anatomy and changes in the pregnant body as it applies to yoga.
*The ability to design yoga classes, sequences and modifications for women in their first, second and third trimester, and after childbirth.
*The ability to help women prepare for the use of yoga in labor and delivery, including ways for birth partners to participate.
*Knowledge of safe parameters and contraindications for the use of yoga techniques in pregnancy.
This 20 hour training will be taught by Carroll Ann (Prashanti) Friedmann.
